What to expect
An uplifting evening of poetry & praise — remembering Allah, and sending ṣalawāt upon His Messenger ﷺ,
in a beautiful and respectful manner.
Poetry in praise — from classical sources
• Poetry can contain wisdom:
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, some poetry contains wisdom.”(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī)
• Praise of the Prophet ﷺ was encouraged and supported:
Ḥassān ibn Thābit رضي الله عنه would recite poetry in defence and praise of the Prophet ﷺ,
and the Prophet ﷺ made duʿā’ for him:
“O Allah, support him with the Holy Spirit (Rūḥ al-Qudus).”(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)
• A well-known example from the Sīrah:
Kaʿb ibn Zuhayr رضي الله عنه recited a famous poem in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ (beginning “Bānat Suʿād”),
and it was accepted — a classical example of dignified praise in the earliest generations.
(mentioned in early Sīrah works and historical narrations)
